This article describes my first digital camera (I still have it)
I bought the Casio QV-30 in 1997 which frankly was an expensive, under performing piece of equipment which was quickly forgotten in favour of film cameras again (I was using a Canon EOS 35mm pro SLR at the time)
Its specification was amazing – sensor size was 250k (modern point and shoot digital cameras have a 12 mb sensor) and it only had a non removable memory of 16mb which would allow you to take up to 96 images before you had to access a PC (with a serial cable) to download the images – to download 96 images took 20 minutes on average
The images were terrible – I think it was the novelty of using a digital camera that sold these initial models to foolish early adopters (myself) for about £400 – its picture resolution was 320px x 240px (a tenth of the size of a modern digital camera)
4 AA batteries would last for about 50 images
I also have a Sony Mavica digital camera which was high tech in comparison – it wrote the images to a removable floppy disc !
Here is the instruction manual for the camera
